Maia Pruuli — a sauna woman who lives through the sauna.

Sauna has always been important in my family — we heated the sauna every Saturday. While travelling abroad, it was the first thing I began to miss. Back in Estonia, I longed to learn the art of whisking, but my courage was lacking to follow this new dream. Until one spring evening when going to a free-dance class, life guided me to the wrong floor, where I noticed a business card on a low table that read Sauna school.

The decision to join Helen Moppel's sauna school came quickly, and from the first meeting I understood I was exactly where I needed to be. In the warmth of smoke sauna I felt as free and natural as I do alone in nature, and I quickly realised I wished to share this experience — of truly being oneself — with others. In the Ärni smoke sauna, under Helen's guidance, I learned to know and use the elements, medicinal herbs and sauna wisdom, as well as what happens inside me and within the sauna room that the eye cannot see.

Six months later, my path led me to Mooska smoke sauna farm. There, under the guidance of Eda Veeroja, I acquired deep traditional sauna wisdom and thorough practical whisking skills. In addition to a wealth of theoretical knowledge, the practical experiential learning added confidence and helped create a clearer structure for the sauna experience.

Today I can say that I live through the sauna. It helps begin, celebrate, heal, slow down and let go and grieve when needed. I share sauna heritage and its magic with the world through guided saunas and various sauna workshops.

My mission

Through guided sauna rituals I offer people the chance to return to themselves and their roots, to cleanse body and spirit, and to find a greater joy in living.

I believe the world is a better place when people live from their own clean inner balance.
